What you need to know

To get a Utah CDL

  • You must pass a 25-question open-book written knowledge test.
  • If you currently have a Hazmat endorsement, it requires a federal background check completed within the last five (5) years and a specialized written knowledge test.
  • A school bus endorsement would require a specialized written knowledge test.
  • All CDL written knowledge tests are administered in English only, and the use of any translation materials is prohibited.
What you need to do

    • Currently, our Farmington, Logan, and Tooele offices do not process CDLs.
  2. Gather your documents - must bring to appointment

  3. At your appointment

    • Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
    • Have photo taken
    • Present documents
    • Pass eye test
    • Pay non-refundable fee of $52.00,ย plus each CDL endorsement is $9.00; motorcycle endorsement is $18.00.
    • You will then take any required written knowledge tests

When do I get my limited-term commercial driver license?

  • A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day.
  • The completed limited-term will have an expiration date of your legal presence document or five (5) years, whichever is sooner; or 1-year from the date of issuance if there is no expiration date, and will be mailed to you in approximately 6-8 weeks.
