CDL Third-Party Tester/Examiner
Third-Party Testers are essential in the CDL program for the state of Utah.
**A tester is a company that sponsors examiners to administer the CDL driving skills test.
**Examiners are individual employees that work for a tester (company.)
Individuals must submit the application packet to the Driver License Division to apply for the program. Your name will be placed on the certification class waiting list once your application has been reviewed and pre-approved for the course. Classes are taught at the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC), which will contact you when availability opens using the contact information provided in your application.
Applicants for Third-Party Examiners may become certified by reading and complying with Administrative Rule R708-21.
The potential Third-Party Tester/Examiner must submit a complete third-party certification application packet to a Driver License Division CDL program coordinator. Here are the different options for applying:

Once the tester has submitted the information, the Driver License Division has 60 days to review all the information for accuracy and provide any feedback for changes if necessary. The examiner must fix any problems and submit the changes to the Driver License Division for approval.
Once all background checks have been completed, the examiner(s) will be required to attend the certification class prior to program approval. Please note that Salt Lake Community College maintains the waiting list and charges its own fee for the certification course. To inquire about the class, you can contact SLCC during regular business hours at 801.957.2266 or 801.957.2265. (After hours or during college breaks, you’ll need to leave a message, and a staff member will return your call once regular business hours have resumed.)
Once the examiner has successfully passed the certification class, a test must be observed by the Driver License Division before final approval is given.
