To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Driver License Division offices will only be processing the following Essential Services:
Commercial Driver License (CDL) – All CDL processes will be allowed; must appear in person, and please be aware long wait times are likely to occur. Click here for the latest CDL changes from FMCSA.
Driver License and Identification Cards – A driver license or identification card can be renewed within one week of expiration. Any lost driver license or identification card will be processed.
Reinstatement of a Driver License – All reinstatement fees should be made through our Call Center at 801.965.4437. The offices will be able to process the reinstatement only when a replacement license is needed.
Administrative Hearings – Conducted by phone only, please contact your local office to schedule a hearing appointment.
Online appointments are discontinued at this time.
To assist with your concerns:
- The Driver License Division will not require a driver to take a written knowledge or driving skills test if they renew their driver license within six (6) months of the expiration date. (This exception does not apply if your driver license was suspended or had more than four (4) citations in the previous five (5) years.)
- Drivers that cannot have their medical forms completed will have until June 30, 2020 to complete the form before a denial of the license will be added to the record.*
- Drivers that have a Failure to Appear or Failure to Comply for a traffic citation will have until June 30, 2020 to make the necessary arrangements with the court regarding the traffic citation.*

Driving Skills Tests – Effective Monday, March 23 regular operator tests will be put on hold until Friday, May 1. Skills Tests for motorcycle can be scheduled if currently have a permit, and CDL are not affected by this change and can be scheduled as usual.
Effective March 26, 2020 the REAL ID requirement has been extended for one year to October 1, 2021 due to COVID-19.
