Data Privacy
The Utah Driver License Division uses your personal information and images to provide services in its operation as a governmental entity including maintaining or servicing accounts and verifying customer information.
The Utah Driver License Division will be unable to provide services should you choose not to provide your personal information or images.
Information and images captured by the Utah Driver License Division may be used in conjunction with facial recognition technology to identify individuals for purposes described in UCA 53-3-109(1)(b)(v) and UCA 77-23e-102(2)(c):
- To a licensed private investigator holding a valid agency license, with a legitimate business need.
- To an insurer, insurance support organization, or a self-insured entity, or its agents, employees, or contractors that issues any motor vehicle insurance under UCA 31A-22-3 Motor Vehicle Insurance, for use in connection with claims investigation activities, antifraud activities, rating, or underwriting for any person issued a license certificate under UCA 53-2e.
- To a depository institution as that term is defined in UCA 7-1-103.
- To the State Tax Commission for the purposes of tax fraud detection and prevention and any other use required by law.
- To a government entity, including any court or law enforcement agency, to fulfill the government entity’s functions.
- To a private person acting on behalf of a government entity to fulfill the government entity’s functions, if the division determines disclosure of the information is in the interest of public safety.
- Investigating a felony, a violent crime, or a threat to human life.
- Identifying an individual who is deceased, incapacitated, at risk and otherwise unable to provide a law enforcement agency with his or her identity.
