Driving skills test
Before you can get your license, you need to pass the behind-the-wheel driving skills test.
You have three (3) options for completing your driving skills test:
1. Schedule the test at a DLD office (links below)
2. Take the test through your driver education course
3. Test with a third-party tester
Any person may be asked to complete a driving skills test if the examiner thinks the applicantโs driving ability may be in question.
Results Sent Electronically
- If you take the driving skills test at your local high school or a private school/tester, the results are sent electronically to the Utah Driver License Division and added to your driving record.

Fail and retesting information
- If you fail the driving skills test at the Driver License Division, you'll need to practice before trying again.
- You can only take one test per day.
- Schedule another test here
- Failing three times means you'll have to pay the fee again.
- You must finish all tests within six months of paying the fee.

- After you finish the test with a third-party tester, they'll send the results to the Driver License Division electronically.
You can't use a third-party tester if
