As of January 20, 2026, and in conjunction with FMCSA's annual review of Utah's CDL Program, Utah is pausing the issuance of non-domiciled CDLs until further notice.

TESTING OPTIONS

  1. Testing at the Driver License Division

    • Must hold the CDL learner permit for 14 days and complete the ELDT before being eligible to take the CDL driving skills test.
    • The cost is $78.00 for two attempts and $52.00 for retakes.
    • Currently, our Farmington, Logan, and Tooele offices do not process CDLs.

  2. Testing with a Third-Party Tester

    • Must hold the CDL learner permit for 14 days and complete the ELDT before being eligible to take the CDL driving skills test.
    • You may seek out an approved certified Third-Party Tester to administer the CDL driving skills test.
    • The tester charges a fee and they determine the cost.
    • After completing a driving skills test, the tester will submit the test results electronically to the DLD.
