15-18 Years of Age
Course Required
Driver education course is required for applicants 15-18 years of age applying for a Utah driver license.
Course Options
You can complete driver's ed through the local high school, private/commercial school, or online home study school.
Results
Your completed course results will be automatically sent to the Driver License Division.
STEPS
Step 1:
- Apply for your Utah learner permit (minimum age is 15.)
- Come back to step 2 when you are ready to enroll in a driver education course.
Apply for Learner Permit at DLDStep 2:
- Enroll in a driver education course through one of these options:
- Your local high school,
- Private/commercial school, or
- Online home study school
- Come back to step 3 when you have:
- Completed your driver education course.
- Completed your 40 hours of practice driving (10 hours after sunset.)
- Have held your learner permit for at least six months if you are between 15 and 17 years of age. Once you turn 18, you are not required to hold the learner permit for six months before applying for your Utah license.
