Your Utah driver license is valid for 90 days after termination or discharge if you were ordered active duty and stationed outside of Utah in any of the armed forces, or you are an immediate family member or dependent of someone ordered active duty and you are residing outside of the state. The 90-day expiration extension does not apply if your license is suspended, disqualified, denied, canceled, or the licensee updates the information or photograph on the license.

The driving skills tests will be waived for military veterans applying for a commercial driver license (CDL) who meet these requirements:

Provide a DD214 or discharge papers showing evidence of honorable discharge within the previous 90 days.
Provide a copy of a DA348, AF2293, or other equivalent document verifying certification for operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) during the immediate two-year period preceding discharge.
Pass all required CDL written knowledge testing.
Complete the Application for Even Exchange (the applicant must complete the CDL-ST WVR page 1, and the last commanding officer must complete the CDL-ST WVR page 2.)

The transfer of school bus (S) and/or hazardous materials (H) endorsements under this waiver program is prohibited. If you did not operate a vehicle with air brakes or a manual transmission, an air brake restriction and an automatic transmission would be added to the Utah CDL. VETERAN INDICATOR

You have the option of adding a veteran indicator to your driver license or identification card if you are at least 21 years old and provide acceptable proof of honorable discharge from the U.S. Military. Acceptable proof of honorable discharge would be DD214, or for WWII Veterans, a Record/Notice of Separation is required. A veteran indicator can only be added to your license or identification card when applying in person (not during an online renewal.)
