Get full license with motorcycle endorsement - completed MSF course

This page shows the process if you did get your motorcycle learner permit.

That determines the kind of appointment you make and whether or not you need to complete an online application.

What you need to know

Course must have been completed within the last 6 months



Tiered motorcycle licensing based on engine size and three-wheeled motorcycle information

  • You will be licensed to ride motorcycles based on the engine size of the motorcycle you ride to complete the rider skills test. If you tested on a three-wheel motorcycle, you will be licensed only to ride three-wheel motorcycles

What you need to do

  1. Take and pass MSF Basic Rider Course or Advanced Rider Course

    Course can be used to waive the test at DLD office if completed within the past 6 months.
    Get MSF course information and providers
  2. After passing MSF course, make appointment at DLD office

    • SAVE TIME: Make appointment - walk-ins wait longer
  3. Gather your documents

    • Bring your current driver license/learner permit
    • Bring your course completion card for the MSF course (must bring this within 6 months of completing the course)
    • If your address has changed, bring two proofs of new address
    • If your name has changed, bring proof of new name
  4. At your appointment

    • Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
    • Have photo taken
    • Present documents - course completion card (and documents for name/address change if applicable)
    • Passย eye test

When do I get my license?

  • A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day
  • License will be mailed to you in approximately 6-8 weeks
Attention: By law, you may not possess more than one REAL ID-compliant certificate at a time (e.g., a Utah license and a Colorado ID.)
