What you need to know

  • To apply for permit

  • Age 15-17, you must hold your learner permit for at least 6 months before you can take the driving skills test.
  • Age 18+ - IF driver's education has been completed, not required to hold permit for for any amount of time before taking driving skills test.
  • Age 19+ - may choose not to complete driver's education, but must hold permit for 90 days before being eligible to apply for license

  • 15, 16, 17 - must have parent, legal guardian, or approved driving instructor next to you
  • 18+ - must have licensed driver over 21 next to you
  • All - must have permit with you

What you need to do

  1. Fill out online application & make appointment

    • SAVE TIME: Make appointment
  2. Gather your documents - must bring to appointment

  3. Study for your test

    Take a practice test
  4. At your appointment

    • If under 18, bring parent or legal guardian to sign for you
    • Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
    • Have photo taken
    • Present documents
    • Pass eye test
    • Pay non-refundable fee of $19.00
    • Take the 50-question written knowledge test
  5. Drive with your permit - know the restrictions

    Ages 15, 16, or 17 -You can drive a regular motor vehicle if:

    • The adult next to you is
      • a licensed parent
      • legal guardian
      • approved driving instructor, or
      • responsible adult who signed for financial responsibility.
    • You have your learner permit with you while driving.
    • Other passengers can be in the vehicle.

    Age 18+ -ย  You can drive a regular motor vehicle if:

    • The adult next to you is a licensed driver at least 21 years old.
    • You have your learner permit with you while driving.
    • Other passengers can be in the vehicle.

    When do I get my permit?

    • You will receive your learner permit with a photo on the same day, if you pass all tests and meet all requirements.
    • Renew your learner permit or replace a lost learner permit by paying a $19.00 fee and completing the application/appointment process again.
    • ย All identification documents are on file and not required to obtain a renewal or replacement

    Parents signing for financial responsibility

    • At any time, the parent or legal guardian who signed for financial responsibility on the minorโ€™s application can withdraw their signature until the minor is 18 years of age and for any reason.ย 
    • This action would invalidate the driver license, and the minor could reapply when they reach the age of 18 or if the parent/legal guardian signed a new application.ย 
    • There would be a licensing fee and a written knowledge test to reapply.
