What you need to know
To get your Utah license you will
- take a 25-question open-book test in a DLD office
- surrender your current license
- If under age 18, bring a parent/legal guardian to sign for financial responsibility and sign off on the 40 hours of practice driving (10 hours after sunset)
- NOTE: you must be at least 16 to drive in Utah without a parent/guardian in the front passenger seat
- understand teen driver restrictions (if applicable)

Gather your documents - must bring to appointment
- Valid out-of-state driver license (which you will surrender)
- Proof of identity
- Proof of social security number
- Two (2) proofs of Utah address
- Get information about acceptable documents
At your appointment
- Have confirmation # ready to check in
- Have photo taken
- Present documents
- Surrender out-of-state license
- Have a parent/legal guardian to sign for financial responsibility & practice driving hours if under 18
- Pass eye test
- Pay non-refundable fee of $39.00
- Take the 25-question open-book written knowledge test

When do I get my license?
- A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day
- The completed license with a 5-year expiration date will be mailed to you in approximately 6-8 weeks.
Attention: By law, you may not possess more than one REAL ID-compliant certificate at a time (e.g., a Utah license and a Colorado ID.)
