What you need to know
- Renew up to 6 months early before your license expires.
- Will you be out of state for your renewal date? You can renew early with proof you’ll be out of Utah during that period.
- Will you still be under 21 when you renew?
- Renewing before your 21st birthday keeps the minor label on your license.
- It will still be valid for 8 years.
- An adult license can be issued on or after your 21st birthday.
What you need to do

- SAVE TIME: Make appointment
Gather your documents - must bring to appointment
- Bring your current Utah driver license.
- Address change? Bring two (2) documents providing proof of your Utah address. Or, update your address online before your appointment.
- Name change? Bring proof of your new name.
At your appointment
- Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
- Have photo taken
- Present documents (for name/address change if applicable)
- Pass eye test
- Pay the non-refundable fee of $52.00 ($27.00 for 65 and older)
- If required (because of expiration, suspensions, or multiple citations), you will then take the written knowledge test.

When do I get my license?
- A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day.
- The completed license with an 8-year expiration date will be mailed to you in approximately 6-8 weeks.
