What you need to do
Fill out online application & make appointment
- REQUIRED: Online application
- SAVE TIME: Make appointment
Gather your documents - must bring to appointment
- Valid out-of-state driver license, which you will surrender
- Two (2) documents providing proof of your Utah address.
- Bring your current lawful presence identity document.
- A S.A.V.E. verification will be run to verify your document status (this process may take up to 14 days.) Get information about S.A.V.E. verifications here.
- Bring your social security card or proof of ineligibility to obtain a social security number.
- If your name has changed, bring proof of your new name.
At your appointment
- Have your confirmation number ready to check-in
- Have photo taken
- Present documents
- Surrender out-of-state license
- Pass eye test
- Pay non-refundable fee of $32.00
- Take the 25-question open-book written knowledge test

When do I get my limited-term license?
- A temporary license with a photo will be issued on the same day.
- The completed limited-term will have an expiration date of your legal presence document or five (5) years, whichever is sooner; or 1-year from the date of issuance if there is no expiration date, and will be mailed to you in approximately 6-8 weeks.
Attention: By law, you may not possess more than one REAL ID-compliant certificate at a time (e.g., a Utah license and a Colorado ID.)
